I've known many people who have battled the terrible disease called cancer. Tears from loss and cheers for those who survived have become way too familiar to me. In early 2024, the dreaded statement "you have cancer" thrusted me into the cyclone of chaos this awful condition inflicts upon its victims. Throughout the highs and lows of my cancer battle, I leaned on my faith, my loving family and friends and the care received from an awesome healthcare team to keep me steady and strong. I am grateful to currently be cancer free and honored to be a member of the Poplar Grove Paddlers participating in the 2026 Dragonboat Charleston Event. Through fundraising efforts and collective participation, Dragonboat Charleston helps provide vital resources, support programs, and a strong sense of connection for cancer survivors. Every paddle stroke will remind me of how the power of togetherness, love and support during the most challenging days in someone's life helps bring healing and hope to those who battle cancer. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
